Salman Ibn Abdelaziz has become the new king of Saudi Arabia following the death of the former king, 90-year-old Abdala Ibn Abdelaziz.
Salman, aged 79, owns the luxurious palace Al Riyadh, situated on the Golden Mile close to the Mar-Mar palace and the mosque, built by former king Fahd.
King Salman is also the owner of the luxury yacht Shaf of London, a familiar sight in Puerto Banus.
Of all the members of the Saudi royal family, Salman has been the most passionate about Marbella, visiting almost every summer for the past twenty years. These visits provide a great boon to the town thanks to the large groups of Saudis, Arabs in general and people from the Gulf that accompany the royal family. This vast concentration of Arabsmainly in the summer months leads to a huge demand for luxury services and articles. Many of these Arabs are used to a lifestyle of luxury, gold and glitter and this is greatly reflected in the luxury sector, which immensely benefits from the vast spending of these generous clients.
The majority of the prestigious and luxury chauffeur-driven cars in Marbella are rented by these clients for days or weeks at a time throughout the summer. They are used mainly for Malaga airport transfer services to Marbella and Puerto Banus as well as excursions to visit cities like Granada, Seville and Cordoba, formerly belonging to the Moorish Empire. All luxury chauffeur-driven cars and luxury car rentals are practically fully booked for the entire summer season.
