Excursions to Granada

Granada is located some 135 km from Malaga Airport. The journey from Malaga takes approx 1 hour by car. The population of Granada varies. Granada is the University city of Andalucia and hence has a very large student population. Granada has around 250.000 to 350.000 inhabitants. Granada has a very dry and hot climate. Together with Seville and Cordoba one of the hottest cities of Andalucia. Temperatures can reach 40ºC + in the summer and Granada is best to visit in spring or autumn.
Visiting Alhambra

When the city of Granada is mentioned - the first thing that springs to mind is the Alhambra - by some considered to be one of the 10 wonders of the world. The Alhambra is a great Moorish castle constructed over many centuries. It has a plentitude of gardens, fortifications and Palaces.
Granada has very much been shaped by its more than 500 year Moorish occupation. Today Granada is a buzzing modern Spanish city very much dominated by its student occupants.
Ancient Arabic roots

The Albaicin is the old Arabic quarters of Granada, located immediately opposite the Alhambra on a hill. The Albaicin is a different world within Granada, still very much so maintaining its Moorish roots.
It is comprised of coppled narrow streets and squares where one in many places can catch a beautiful view and a glimpse of the Alhambra.
